Very Rev. John H. Erickson
The 10th Annual SS Cyril and Methodius Lecture
will take place on Monday, May 3, 2010 at St. Paul’s
Seminary in Pittsburgh at 7:00pm. The featured
speaker is Very Rev. John H. Erickson, former Dean
and Professor Emeritus of Church History at St.
Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Yonkers,
NY. Fr. Erickson’s address is entitled: “Baptism
in Eastern Christian Tradition: Ecclesial Context,
Faith Content.” With a baccalaureate degree from Harvard, a
master’s of philosophy from Yale, and a master’s of
theology from St. Vladimir, Erickson steadily rose
from a layman teaching canon law and church history
to dean in 2002 to ordination to the priesthood in
2006. He is author of at least four books and
editor/translator or co-editor of over sixty
additional works. Fr. Erickson’s last role resulted
in adapting and editing five volumes of Orthodox
liturgical music, his main “hobby” over the years. Among his professional activities and church
roles, he has been a member of the Faith and Order
Commission of the National Council of Churches of
Christ, former president of the Orthodox Theological
Society of America, a member of the North American
Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation and a
member of the U.S. Eastern Orthodox-Oriental
Orthodox Consultation. The annual lecture series is sponsored by the SS Cyril & Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary. The Seminary serves as the center of learning for Byzantine Catholic Churches in North America. Those seeking information about the SS. Cyril and Methodius Lecture (no charge but registration is required) are invited to contact the Seminary at 412-321-8383. |
